The museums that you can’t miss!

Cosmo Caixa

With no doubt that if you have to recommend a great museum, that would be Cosmo Caixa. No matter how old your children are, surprise them with an exciting visit to the science museum!
The gigantic space captivates you with an incredible interactive exposition that will leave you speechless. A stimulating journey that unveils the most unusual of the universe through objects and games that will encourage the senses.
The modernist building, enlarged in 2004, occupies nine fun floors and is located at the Collserola mountain offering magnificent views of the city.
The visit takes time, but it will not disappoint and the children will be fascinated.
The permanent exhibitions include:
A real flooded forest where you can see a tropical rain, feel the smell and humidity of the Amazon, and discover the plant and animal species such as anacondas, caimans or carnivorous fish.
The Planetarium, with 3D movies that will show you all about space from an unseen perspective.
The Room of the matter witch offers a hilarious journey trough objects with which to experience the fundamentals of the physical and mechanical laws. It also includes a sample of the beginning of life, reproduction and evolution of the species.
The geological wall; where children can feel different types of rock that make up our planet.
Outdoors the public garden Science Square, also integrates a sound telescope, a sundial, a mechanism to understand the seasons, a weather station where you can analyse atmospheric pressure, humidity or temperature. A very nice place to play with the children, have a picnic or have a coffee on the terrace of the bar.

You will also find endless exhibitions, workshops and temporary conferences, in their website you can check out all the information about these activities.

Museu Blau

The museum of natural sciences of Barcelona has different venues. We recommend the Museu Blau located in the Parc del Fòrum. A space that offers an exciting immersion to the heart of nature to learn about the history of life and the creation of the earth.
The institution has a taxonomic collection of more than three million specimens, of which 4600 are permanently exhibited: minerals, lichens, rocks, fossils, stuffed animals and vegetables. The museum is a didactic place suitable for all ages, with a magnificent selection that will engage the whole family.
The exhibition recreates through amazing images the Big Bang, the creation of the universe and the formation of the continents (section: Biography of the Earth). A third space called Earth today collects an infinity of pieces that discover the richness of shapes, colors and species that have passed through the earth. The exhibition is also complemented with augmented reality screens to accurately examine the figure that interests you most.
In addition of the temporary exhibitions, the museum also encloses a fantastic media library with books, sound and audio-visual documents, and offer free activities for children (0-6 years). These activities do not require prior registration but are only offered on weekends.
Finally, it is worthwhile to take a look at the architectural details of the building. A construction in the form of a prism, carried out by the Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron for the Universal Forum of Cultures in 2004.

The Zoo

The visit to the zoo of Barcelona is another great experience for the youngest. Its history goes back to 1892 thanks to Lluís Martí i Codolar, a wealthy collector who donated his collection of animals to the Barcelona City Council.

Located since then in the emblematic Ciutadella Park, built for the Universal Exposition of 1888, Barcelona Zoo is internationally famous for having been the home of Snowflake, the only albino gorilla known to date in the world.

Currently, the park is dedicated to scientific research and for the conservation of animals in danger of extinction.

The collection includes species of different habitats: felines, elephants, giraffes, kangaroos, chimpanzees, rhinoceroses, caimans, snakes, turtles, Komodo dragons, iguanas, birds from different continents such as flamingos, cockatoos or macaws, among many other animals. It also offers shows with dolphins and sea lions, has a petting farm with domesticated animals and a ride circuit with ponies for the little ones.

The site also has picnic and playgrounds areas, and offers guided tours, activities and workshops.

Enjoy!

Aquarium

Located on the pier of Port Vell, next to the Ramblas, the Aquarium is a fantastic immersion into the marine world.
The visit presents seven permanent exhibitions, has access to baby strollers, is fully adapted to visitors with reduced mobility. The tour of the aquarium requires a couple of hours, and it is a magical adventure that you cannot miss!
What will you find:
The Oceanarium, an 80-meter tunnel to enjoy an underwater walk. Sea bream, moray eels, sunfish, rays and bull sharks are some of the species that find swimming around you.
The aquariums of the Mediterranean, the largest Mediterranean-themed aquarium in the world. Find out more about this wonderful sea without needing to get wet, discover the 14 aquariums that represent the Mediterranean’s different marine communities.
In each aquarium, you can learn about the most characteristic species. You will also be able to observe two recreations of protected areas on Spain’s coastline: the Ebro Delta and the Medes Islands, and take a walk through the acrylic tunnel that runs the length of the Oceanarium, which gives you the feeling that you are swimming with the sharks.
Tropical aquariums filled with exotic coral reefs, unique, spectacularly beauty architectural creations built by small colonial invertebrates – corals. Its a fascinating world of colour that opens up before us.

Species themed aquariums give you the oportunity to enjoy the smaller species, that tend to go completely unnoticed in large aquariums like sea horses or shark eggs.

Planeta Aqua presents species that have adapted to different conditions of the marine environment such as penguins, piranhas or iguanas. Through interactive and informative panels you will learn about the evolution of different mammals, reptiles, and fish.
Jewels of the sea is an exciting journey of molluscs and seashells.
Explore! This space offers a set of interactive activities where you can touch, look, listen, explore and discover everything that involves the marine world.
